Fifty-three barangays from various cities and municipalities in the Province of Samar have been recognized as national passers of the Seal of Good Local Governance for Barangays (SGLGB). To honor their achievement, the Provincial Government of Samar awarded each barangay a cash incentive of β±20,000.
The awarding ceremonies were held during the series of Adlaw han Barangay activities conducted as part of the Samar Day 2025 festivities, bringing together local leaders and communities to celebrate grassroots achievements in governance and public service.
Governor Sharee Ann Tan commended the dedication and hard work of the barangay officials in meeting the SGLGBβs rigorous standards. She encouraged them to aim even higher, expressing her hope that more barangays in the province will qualify in the coming years. As an added motivation, she announced that the cash incentive will be raised to β±50,000 for barangays that will pass the next SGLGB assessment.
Meanwhile, DILG Provincial Director Judy Batulan explained the criteria for earning the recognition, which include disaster preparedness, business-friendliness, environmental management, peace and order, and other key governance indicators. He also emphasized that earning the SGLG not only boosts the barangayβs credibility but also positively impacts the overall standing of their municipality.
Aside from the monetary award, each barangay also received an SGLG Marker from the Liga ng mga Barangay, handed over by its Provincial Federation President, Hon. Ruby M. Delector.
The recognition serves as both a celebration of achievement and a call to action, inspiring all barangays in Samar to strive for excellence, deliver quality public service, and make good governance a shared commitment.
