The Provincial Government of Samar has officially rolled out the Youth for Ethical and Smart (YES) Journalism 2025, a specialized training designed to empower the next generation of storytellers and truth-seekers through responsible and ethical journalism.
One hundred school paper advisers from across the province participated in a three-day campus journalism training, which provided a platform to strengthen their expertise, exchange best practices, and build their capacity to guide young writers. To enrich the experience, top-notch speakers from various fields of media and communication were invited to mentor the participants and share their knowledge, skills, and insights.
Governor Sharee Ann Tan underscored the vision of developing future generations who are not only proficient in the craft of journalism but are also anchored in the values of integrity, responsibility, and compassion.

The governor also outlined plans to establish a provincial radio station that will serve as a training ground for campus journalists and an avenue for schools to promote their initiatives. This program aims to foster informed communities and provide young writers with real-world opportunities to hone their skills.
The activity further highlighted the crucial role of school paper advisers, who carry the responsibility of nurturing not only the technical competence of their students but also their values and critical thinking.
By equipping advisers with the right tools and perspectives, YES Journalism 2025 ensures that student journalists grow into responsible communicators who contribute meaningfully to society.
Through this initiative, Samar continues to invest in its youth as responsible storytellers and champions of ethical communication, paving the way for an informed and engaged citizenry.
